Information Station

Information Station

Good morning friends! A few weeks ago my boss and fearless leader Peggy mentioned that she wanted a place to display sales literature (business cards, brochures, catalogs, etc.) for each of our vendors.   Being a new store, check us out on Facebook, and low on funds I was worried that she would have to invest a large amount of $ into a literature display unit and I didn't want her to have to do that so I asked her to let me try to come up with a cute and more wallet friendly version of what the big box stores offered.  This is what I came up with!

I started by cutting a piece of 5/8" OSB to fit our space (4' x 4').  I then attached two pieces of 2-1/2" common wood x 4' long to the back of my board with hinges so that we can lean the unit out on the legs or fold it flat to move it around.

We are going for a rustic/shabby chic vibe in the store so I painted the unit Woodrow Wilson white because that is my favorite vintage off-white paint color.   I then purchased (for 88¢each!) 12 loaf pans from Wal-mart and drilled 2 holes in one side of each of the pans so I could mount them to the unit.  I measure and placed each loaf pan and attached it to the unit with 2 screws.

I moved the unit into place at the sore and attached a piece of burlap ribbon to the top as well as a sign that reads Information Station to cute it up and so that people know where to find our information.  Our vendors can now place their sales literature in the store in one easy to find location and it only cost me $11.39 to make!  I had to purchase the loaf pans but had all of the other materials in the shop leftover from other projects.  If you where to purchase the items to make the unit it would cost around $50-$60 but even that is far less than the literature stands we found for sale at local stores or online.  I am happy with the way our shabby chic one-of-a-kind Information Station turned out and I hope that our vendors can each get their information out to the public with it.  Thanks for reads and have a great day!
