Valentine's Painting Party Follow Up

I wrote a post awhile back that I would be hosting a Valentine's sign painting class.  It was a success!  I held the party Saturday night and had 5 painters attend.  It was a small class but fun.  We chatted and painted and the ladies signs turned out so cute!  

Before the party I prepared by cutting all of the wood that I would need for my guests and 1 extra of each design that I could paint and display at the party.

Next I brought my Cricut into the kitchen and began cutting the stencils. 

Next I laid out all of my paints, brushes, signs and stencils and got busy painting an example of each style.  I wanted to be sure that my guests could see in-person what the finished product would look like and have different color combo options to look at. 

My next step was to get set up for the party.  I covered my tables with disposable coverings, hung the signs that I had painted on the wall along with all of the paint brushes and set the paints, signs and stencils out on the tables for my guests.  They all painted (and made much less of a mess than I did!) and were finished with their products within 2 hours of beginning.  Quick and easy! AND so cute!!!

 

This guest finished her sign off with some antiquing wax and I just love how it turned out!

My daughter liked it so much that she used her left-over paint and re-created the look at home later!

After the party was finished I cleaned up the party room and placed the signs that I had painted into my area to be sold.  I had fun at this party and can't wait until the next!  If you would like to join us for the next party just let me know!

Valentine's Day Decor

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I am already in full-on decorating mode!  Y'all know I love to decorate for each holiday/season and Valentine's day is no exception.  I started on the buffet table in our dining room with a few cute items I already had on hand and then made the LOVE/Arrow sign in the middle.

This is all it took to push me into decor making beast mode!  I got busy in the shop and came up with these cute items.  All are available for purchase at Crafts & More 558 Main Street in Grand Junction. 

Suit of Hearts Banners.  Not gonna lie I was singing the entire time I made these.  "Playing with queen of hearts... knowing it ain't really smart... the joker ain't the only fool..."

Hanging valentine's decor.  Can be hung on a wreath hanger as I have them here or just on the wall.

Valentine's Sign Painting Party

I love working with wood and paint and creating or refurbishing furniture and home decor but sometimes I like to do something a little different.  This is one of those times.

Man Cave Barnwood Wall

After working in the shop for several hours the hubby and I sat down on his couch for a short break.  He looked around at the lower section of walls and said that he wished he would have had the construction company complete the drywall when they erected the shop because now it will never get finished.  No time, no money, no know how, etc.  I said, "Why don't we do a pallet wall?"  He gave me one of those "honey have you hit your head or lost your mind?" looks.  I said, "No. Really.  It is easy to do and will look great.  We can use some of the tongue and groove boards from my pile of barn wood."  It took a little convincing but he went for it.  We started pulling wood from the pile, blowing off the snow, dirt, leaves and 100+ years worth of grime and pulled the nails that were left behind.  After only a few hours of work that night we had about 1/2 of the wall PL Premiumed, mounted, leveled, and nailed.

We went to bed for the night and finished up the rest of the wall the next morning.  We then did the small section of wall to the right of the man door too.  

Then we started hanging the man cave decor.  We started with a Chippewa Tires sign that I found in my grandmother's garage in Minnesota and that my awesome Uncle Jeff let me take home (about 8 years ago haha).  Then we added all of the framed Tool and Puscifer posters that my handy hubby has been collecting for years.  He then needed a shelf to hold his satellite DVR box- yes there is tv with satellite and DVR in the man cave.  He is spoiled.  I came up with the idea of an industrial type floating shelf made with pipe and pipe fittings.  A trip to the Home Depot (or was it Lowes? I can't remember) and we were set... except for the few fittings we forgot and the extra pipes we needed to make the shelf taller because the hubs changed his mind.  So... a second quick trip to the local Co-Op and then we were in business!  I stained 2 redwood pieces to make the shelves and the hubby assembled all of his pipe and fittings.  The next morning Caity and daddy mounted the shelf to the wall and set up the DVR box.  They made a few picture/poster re-arrangent adjustments and VOILA!  Man cave pallet wall complete!
